c‘there were over 20,000 people Thursday 8 June in Piazza Duomo to enthusiastically applaud the best Italian opera: Giacomo Puccini, Vincenzo Bellini, Gaetano Donizetti, Gioachino Rossini and Giuseppe Verdi, masterfully performed by the Filarmonica della Scala led by conductor Riccardo Chailly in the traditional “Concerto per Milano”, now in its tenth edition.
Diego Floréz in Concert for Milan
And this year, in the sparkling Milanese evening setting, even a surprise: the participation of the talented Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Floréz.
His is the voice that has enchanted in the execution of operatic arias, from “Tombs of my ancestors” by “Lucia di Lammermoor” to “It is kept for this steel” by “La Traviata”. But not only. The forays into more contemporary music also inflamed the audience: ovations for the tenor and for the orchestra by Maestro Chailly after “Love Theme”, “The March” from the film “Superman” or the enchanting Granada. And especially after the iconic “Cielito Lindo” that Juan Diego Floréz unexpectedly sang and performed on the classical guitar.
More than 20 countries in the world connected with the mega concert (broadcast live by Rai on TV and radio), organized with the patronage of the Municipality of Milan and supported by Allianz, sponsor of the event, by the Main Partner UniCredit and other private partners, including Esselunga.
A great appointment which, in addition to being the most popular free concert of symphonic music in Italy, is also now a traditional opening for the Milanese summer and musical season.
