20 years ago, numerous musicians and companions commemorated the late George Harrison in London’s Royal Albert Hall. To mark the anniversary of the tribute concert, the film “Concert for George” that was made there can be seen again in selected cinemas worldwide on November 29, 2022.
The film audio was remastered in Dolby Atmos for the anniversary. Also featured is a new introduction by Harrison’s widow, Olivia, and their son, Dhani. here you can see the worldwide dates. The screenings in Europe will take place mainly in Great Britain and Ireland, on the mainland the film can only be seen on November 29th in cinemas in Budapest and Amsterdam according to previous information.
“[Es waren] the most heartfelt, moving songs George wrote, whose meanings were magnified by his absence, played with heart and soul by a hard core of friends,” says Olivia Harrison today. “It’s a pleasure to be able to relive this incredible evening on the big screen after 20 years.”
“Twenty years ago, I stood on stage alongside my father’s dearest friends and celebrated his life and his music,” says Dhani Harrison. It was one of the nicest things we could do that day to commemorate his death. This show contained a lot of love that was preserved in the film ‘Concert for George’. I hope you like him.”
The concert was organized by Eric Clapton and Olivia Harrison on the 1st anniversary of the ex-Beatles death. Alongside Harrison’s bandmates Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and the comedy group Monty Python, among others, performed. The Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar, who influenced Harrison’s turn to Indian music significantly, and his daughter Anoushka Shankar were also involved. George Harrison died of cancer on November 29, 2001.
