Concert canceled in Moscow due to war in Ukraine

Green Day have canceled their upcoming show in Moscow due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. The cancellation of the concert followed the official declaration of war by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24.

The band was originally scheduled to play a concert at Moscow’s Spartak Stadium on May 29th. Nothing comes of it: Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the band decided to cancel the show. “This moment is not about stadium shows,” Green Day said in a statement.

“It is with a heavy heart that, given the current events, we feel it necessary to cancel our upcoming show in Moscow at Spartak Stadium,” the band wrote in an Instagram story. “We are aware that there is more at stake at the moment than stadium shows. But we also know that rock ‘n’ roll is forever and we are sure there will be a time and place where we will return in the future.”

A refund of the tickets is possible at the pre-sale points. The band also asked their fans to take care of themselves.

The actions of Putin, who has claimed that Russia has no intention of occupying Ukraine and that his country’s actions amounted to a “special military operation,” have been widely condemned around the world.

Numerous celebrities also expressed their support for Ukraine. Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks penned an emotional post about the ongoing conflict, which reads “My heart is broken,” while Madonna showed her support for Ukraine with a fan-made video remixing her song “Sorry” from 1999 expressed in 2005. Pop legend Elton John also expressed his horror at the situation and spoke of a nightmare.

Some Russian musicians also expressed their protest against the Russian war of aggression. The Russian rapper Oxxxymoron, for example, has also canceled several shows in St. Petersburg and Moscow.

In Germany, Green Day will be showing in Berlin in early June and shortly thereafter at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park.
