Midfielder Philipp Sander will not be available to second division soccer team Holstein Kiel for the time being because of a “slight myocarditis”. This resulted in “extensive medical follow-up examinations” after Sanders’ corona infection, the club announced on Thursday.
This case shows “how important comprehensive medical support is after a corona infection,” said Managing Director Sport Uwe Stöver.
How long the 24-year-old Sander has to pause is unclear. “We know about the dangers and are aware of our responsibility towards each individual. A cardiological examination is mandatory for us,” said Stöver.
Sander should completely recover from his illness and will “slowly rebuild afterwards under medical supervision”.
