Yet the city of Bruges takes no risk. “We have appointed an asbestos expert who will carry out a soil investigation and sets a perimeter to check whether asbestos has been distributed in the area,” says ships of spatial planning Mathijs Goderis. “We assume that this distribution is minimal, certainly not to the houses. But we want to take the uncertainty.”
The city also immediately contacted OVAM and the Care and Health Agency, and also has some tests performed in the nearby houses. “We understand that people are worried and want to reassure them,” said Goderis.
