Composer of legendary Efteling music Ruud Bos (87) passed away

Composer Ruud Bos passed away at the age of 87. BumaStemra and Buma Cultuur have announced this on behalf of his family. He is known for, among other things, the music he made for numerous attractions in Efteling.

Bos made the music for Carnaval Festival, Fata Morgana, Droomvlucht, Villa Volta and the Vogel Rok roller coaster.

A spokesperson for Efteling calls the news about Bos’s death ‘very sad’: “Music is very important in the experience of an Efteling attraction. He was the first we ever asked to compose music, which was especially an attraction was made.”

Fata Morgana was the first attraction for which Bos made music. “But of course Carnival Festival, the adaptation of Toon Hermans’ music, is also very well known.”

‘Very grateful’
He laid the foundation with the music that Bos made for the theme park. “Today we still work as in the beginning with Fata Morgana.”

Efteling is ‘very grateful’ to Bos for what he has done for the park. “And of course we wish the family a lot of strength.”

Children’s series
The Amsterdam composer received the Golden Harp in 1982 and the Buma Oeuvre Award Multimedia in 2021 for the music he wrote for children’s series, such as De Fabeltjeskrant, Bassie & Adriaan and Dagboek van een herdershond.

“Without music I would be nothing, that’s me. Music is the language that everyone understands and it is the most beautiful art form there is, I think,” Bos said in 2019 in a documentary about his work.

Show Hermans and Wim Sonneveld
In addition to his music for Efteling and children’s series, Bos also composed for Dutch artists such as Toon Hermans, Wim Sonneveld, Willeke Alberti and Gerard Cox.
