Homes are being built in no time in the Zaanse Rosmolenbuurt. Well, stomped? They come by ship across the Zaan and are made in a Brabant factory. Manufactured in just seven weeks and residents will be able to move in in 5 weeks. In total, around 90 homes will be placed in the area.
Suzanne Swinkels, commercial director of Homes Factory, prefers not to talk about prefab houses, which have a cheap image and are often temporary. “These homes are designed by architects, will last 100 years and are durable. And there is no nitrogen problem because they are made indoors.”
Housing association Parteon is also enthusiastic. “We are co-initiators,” says director Harry Platte, “it would never be possible the old way. Not fast, good and sustainable enough.”
The houses are guided in two parts (floors) to the Hoveniersstraat through the narrow streets of the working-class neighborhood. Two men from the neighborhood watch the spectacle. They love it. But they wouldn’t want to live there anyway. “It’s way too small for us.” The old roof tiles of the demolished houses will soon be used again and will look as if they have been there for years.
