Mayor Jean-Marie Dedecker claims that the then municipal council of Middelkerke received a bribe at the end of 2016 to favor a construction group in the construction of the new casino. But that complaint was rejected. The Indictment Chamber confirms an earlier decision by the council chamber in Bruges, which also found that there was insufficient evidence of bribery.
