Game without history: a goal in each half (Douvikas and Alberto Moreno) establishes the result. Volpato devours the guests’ only chance, who also lose Berardi to injury
Como wins again. In the first matchday 13, Fabregas’ team beat Sassuolo 2-0 and ruined Grosso’s birthday party. At Sinigaglia, Nico Paz and his teammates earned their eleventh useful result in a row: never so good in Serie A since 1986 with Mondonico on the bench. Douvikas immediately gave his team the lead, in the second half Moreno’s first league goal closed the game. The blue and whites rise to 24 points, momentarily catching up with Inter and Bologna in fourth place. At least for one night it is the Champions League zone. Chivu’s men have been warned, the next away match will be at San Siro.
THE UNLOCKS DOUVIKAS
—
Fabregas and Grosso find themselves as opponents for the second time. In the Italian Cup, last September 24th, Douvikas and the others managed to prevail with a clear 3-0. Gone are the days when the two world champions faced each other in the quarter-finals at Euro 2008. Now the Spaniard dreams of Europe with Como, while the former full-back leads the black and green revolution. The home team started better at Sinigaglia and showed up straight away with a lob from Rodriguez. In the 14th minute the Greek striker took care of breaking the deadlock: he did well to resolve a melee in the area following a corner kick. It is the third goal in the championship for the ’99 class, this time preferred to Morata to lead the attack. Sassuolo struggled to break through, their opponents closed in well. Then in the 39th minute the usual Nico Paz does one of his magics: he hits a bicycle kick from the edge of the area, Muric sends the ball into the corner.
COMO DOMAIN
—
Bad news for Grosso at the start of the second half. In the 51st minute Berardi was forced off due to a muscle problem, with Volpato taking his place. A minute later the lights go out for Sassuolo. Nico Paz throws the ball deep into Moreno who anticipates Muric – completely out of time in the exit – and scores the 2-0: first goal in Serie A for the Spanish full-back, fifth winning pass from the Argentine attacking midfielder. With the defeat of the black-green captain, the guests created very little. The coach tries to mix the cards: Fadera and Moro enter in place of Laurienté and Pinamonti. But the blue and white defense doesn’t allow space, except on one occasion: Volpato devours an excellent chance to shorten the score in the 77th minute following Doig’s cross. It ends like this, Como remains undefeated. Stop for Sassuolo after the draw with Pisa.
