Community service for threatening and stalking ex-girlfriend in Beilen. ‘Clear boundaries not respected’

A man (21) from the municipality of Midden-Drenthe has been sentenced to 180 hours of community service for harassing and threatening his ex-girlfriend. In one day he called her 119 times.

The man could not cope with the broken relationship and continuously sought contact with his ex-girlfriend (20). When she blocked him on various apps, he sought her out after a night out, after which he stuck her on a cycle path with his car and threatened to end his life. He brandished a gun, which later turned out to be a toy gun from AliExpress. He also threatened her family and harassed her friends.

No carefree childhood

The man’s behavior had a significant impact on the young woman and her family, as became apparent during the substantive hearing in September. The victim’s mother read a statement there. “You took away a carefree childhood from my daughter,” she told the suspect. He showed guilt.

Despite progressive insight, the court believes he deserves a hefty sentence. “The suspect only acted out of his own need to speak to the victim and crossed expressly stated boundaries.”

Latest list of conditions

The man receives a community service order of 180 hours and a suspended prison sentence of three months, with a probationary period of three years. At the request of the Public Prosecution Service, a laundry list of conditions is attached. The man is not allowed to use alcohol or drugs and must report to the probation service. He will also be given a contact and location ban and must undergo treatment. He must pay his ex-girlfriend compensation of more than 3,000 euros.
