Communists join left-wing alliance for France parliamentary election | Abroad

“We want to unite all forces on the basis of an ambitious program, respecting their plurality and autonomy,” the communists said in a statement.

“On May 3, 1936, the Popular Front won the parliamentary elections, and on May 3, 2022, we will gather within the ‘Nouvelle union Populaire écologique et sociale’,” PCF National Secretary Fabien Roussel added on Twitter.

The agreement between LFI and PCF includes a plea for a minimum wage of 1,400 euros net, wage increases, retirement at age 60, price locks and environmental plans. There will be no nuclear exit: the communists are opposed to it. The nuclear exit is mentioned in the agreement between LFI and EELV, according to the number 2 of ecologists, Sandra Regol.

The aim of the alliance is to obtain a majority in the Assemblée Nationale and Jean-Luc Mélenchon who is appointed prime minister.

LFI and communists already worked together in the 2012 and 2017 presidential elections, but the two continued to operate separately in parliament between 2017 and 2022 and party leader Fabien Roussel was a candidate in the presidential elections a few weeks ago. He got 2.3 percent of the vote.
