There are no compelling arguments why at home games of the BVB 30,000 viewers are not allowed to appear under a 2G Plus regulation. That would be a 50 percent occupancy with only seats and given all the knowledge that experts have accumulated after two years of the pandemic.
No valid arguments
Yes, but that public transport. Yes, but the fans hugging each other.
These are the arguments that are put forward reflexively by opponents of an opening. Both are not valid, because a well-utilized public transport is – rightly – tolerated every working day. The fact that football fans in the curve are generally considered unreasonable is actually slander.
Gradual weaning
Football, professional sport in general, needs its fans back in the stadiums and halls. Also because he is – especially in the case of indoor sports – urgently dependent on the ticket income. However, the fact that the gradual weaning continues is not enough. The connection to the sport, to the clubs suffers. The fact that ghost games are broadcast again after a comparatively large number of viewers have been admitted is a psychological blow after two years of the pandemic.
Football received heavy criticism, also from the sports show, for its special role in spring/summer 2020 – which it always rejected. It now looks as if politicians want to collect plus points by putting football in its place. The conditions have changed fundamentally.
Enough of consideration and solidarity
Every adult has now had ample opportunity to protect themselves against severe Covid 19 disease with extremely effective vaccines. The problem is a “too large vaccination gap” among people older than 50 years. This is what the government decision of January 24 says.
This problem will remain because of the stubbornness of these people, which no vaccination campaign, no matter how good, can counteract. After all the consideration and solidarity exercised by the vast majority of the population, no one should suffer from this stubbornness. Not even professional sport, not even football.
