The German Ski jumping association (DSV) has signed Thomas Thurnbichler as the new coach for his B squad. A decision with a big scope, said ski jump expert Luis Holuch in a comment for sports.de.
The future of the most sought-after trainer on the ski jumping market has been clarified: Thomas Thurnbichler changes to the German Ski Association. And in his announcement, he correctly emphasized that with Thurnbichler a “proven expert” is now responsible for the B squad- i.e. for the second row in German ski jumping, which wants to and should make the leap into the World Cup in the short or medium term.
What may sound like a step back for the former Polish national coach is the right challenge at the right time.
Of course, he is now asked to develop jumper that can fill the gap that Markus Eisenbichler and Stephan Leyhe left with their resignations. And to ensure that the DSV World Cup team is well and broad even after the Olympic season.
The DSV has already found a possible Horngacher heir
With him you have also found a potential, suitable successor for national coach Stefan Horngacher. Because logically, it will not stay on his post forever.
The load and the pressure to carry Thurnbichler in Poland in the past winter cannot be compared to what he now has in front of his chest in Germany. The public interest in what is happening in the Continental Cup, in which he will be on the road, is by no means as big as that in the World Cup.
Communication within the association structures and the eliminating language barrier will certainly benefit everyone involved. Especially when it comes to conveying new approaches in daily training work or technical subtleties.
Thurnbichler has already proven that he can do that in his young coaching career: first in the Tyrolean and then also in the Austrian ski association. There he created two junior world champions with Peter Resinger and Niklas Bachlinger before he then promoted Andreas Widhölzl’s assistant. There, among other things, he shared the first development steps of today’s overall World Cup and four-hill tour tour Daniel Tschofenig.
No wonder that despite the unsightly end, he sparked desires in Poland. Nobody will admit this public, but his move to Germany has certainly caused some hopes to burst. At least the Swiss found an experienced and profiled replacement after the surprising departure of Rune Velta with the Slovenian Bine Norcic.
