For their commitment to peace missions around the world, 55 police officers, members of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee and civilian experts received the International Missions Remembrance Medal in the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague today. After the opening of the ceremony by Minister Yeşilgöz-Zegerius of Justice and Security, the medals were presented by Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces Vice Admiral Boudewijn Boots and Deputy Commander Royal Netherlands Marechaussee Lieutenant-General Marty Messerschmidt, Chief of Police Henk van Essen and Director-General Political Affairs. Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Marcel de Vink.
The decorated officials have contributed to increased security and stability in countries such as Mali, Iraq, Libya and Ukraine. They help, among other things, in tackling cross-border organized crime, modernizing security apparatus and building the rule of law.
All children under the age of 16 of the decorated officers have received a children’s medallion for their support from the home front.
