Away from the slap scandal, things don’t seem to be going well for Will Smith either: The stand-up comedy series “This Joka” he produced will not be returning to the Roku streaming platform for a second season. The format only started in March of this year. In it, various up-and-coming and established comedians had set themselves the goal of fathoming the essence of their artistic genre. “This isn’t a competition, this is a laugh,” Smith proclaimed in the trailer.

As the trade journal “Deadline” reports, the decision should have nothing to do with Smith’s freak out during this year’s Oscars. Rather, the hiring stems from a rather unusual timing issue: It’s rumored that Roku never really had the option to go into a second season with This Joka because the renewal option expired before the series even started. The streaming service simply had no way of analyzing viewer data.
Who’ll Stop The Rain?
Regardless of the end of “This Joka”, “Deadline” also claims to have learned that another Smith’s comedy project has been put on hold. Netflix is said to have refrained from a comedy variety show that the 53-year-old should have moderated. Again, the actor would have been executive producer.
