Lucas Hernández has not played a minute under Thomas Tuchel, as the defender is still in rehab after tearing his cruciate ligament. The FC Bayern head coach is eagerly awaiting the Frenchman’s comeback. Whether it still works this season is still open.
“I can’t wait for him to be on the pitch,” Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel began his little speech of praise for Lucas Hernández at the matchday press conference on Friday afternoon. The central defender was seriously injured at the World Cup in Qatar, and the 27-year-old has missed 25 competitive Bayern Munich games since then.
Although Hernández is still toiling away in training, the defensive man is not yet an option for the squad for the penultimate game of the season against RB Leipzig. According to “Bild”, it is still unclear whether he will at least make it onto the FC Bayern bench on matchday 34 when the game against 1. FC Köln is due.
Because: Lucas Hernández cannot train with the team yet. On Friday he worked individually with fitness trainer Prof. Dr. Holger Broich on the training ground on Säbener Straße. According to the report, he usually takes over the last units in the rehabilitation process before he gives the green light for team training.
Tuchel on Hernández: “Clear leader”
Tuchel enthused: “It’s very impressive every day how professionally he does it. You can now say that we expect that too. That’s partly the case, but there’s a little more to it. He’s not only there, but always has a smile on his face, is always positive.”
As soon as Hernández enters a room, “you feel his personality. His style also infects others, although he himself has been in a really modest situation for many months,” said Tuchel: “That makes it very special. He is a very clear leader.”
It is clear to the Munich head coach that the 33-time international and world champion from 2018 will wear the FC Bayern jersey next season. Despite recent rumors about a possible summer move to PSG, everything boils down to an early contract extension.
Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic had already hinted at those plans last December. According to “Sky”, the new working paper for the Munich record transfer will be valid until 2027.
