“Comeback of a conspiracy star”: ZDF documentary about Xavier Naidoo

For years, Xavier Naidoo has spread conspiracy theories, right-wing extremist and anti-Semitic narratives and false claims about the corona pandemic, among other things. Now the Mannheimer wants nothing to do with it. In a recently released video, he spoke of getting “strayed in search of truth.” In recent years he has “opened up to theories, perspectives and sometimes also groups”, from which he is now said to have distanced himself. The singer had also explained that his wife and part of his family are from Ukraine and that the Russian war of aggression on the democratic country had made him rethink. So are we dealing with a purified Naidoo now?

Critics are skeptical about the matter. On the one hand there are rumors that Naidoo would like to leave a sinking ship in view of the expiring corona measures in order to gain a foothold in the entertainment industry again, on the other hand critics emphasize that years of lobbying for right-wing extremist, anti-Semitic and conspiracy theory positions are not so easy to do with a three-minute video to be made good.

ZDF documentary about Xavier Naidoo: “Comeback of a conspiracy star”

Because Naidoo has made questionable decisions on the assembly line in recent years, worked with a decidedly right-wing band and contributed to the fact that conspiracy theory thinking has spread more and more in our society. Anyone who would like to recapitulate the radicalization of the former “Voice of Germany” coach in detail can now recommend the ZDF documentary “Comeback of a conspiracy star”.

In the documentation, which is now available in the ZDFmediathek, the two journalists Salwa Houmsi and Milan Panek follow Naidoo’s “career” from celebrated pop singer and entertainer to figurehead of the right-wing conspiracy scene. They use different research approaches to get a deeper understanding of Naidoo’s frightening development and the scene in which he (has) moved. Above all of this is the question of how serious Naidoo is with his apology. Is he really willing to face up to his mistakes or is it just a shallow excuse to get back into show business?

You can find the thirty-minute documentary “Comeback of a conspiracy star?” here in the ZDF media library.
