Venus William’s top player Muchova can annoy her celebrated US Open comeback for a long time-and tells about her motivation in tears.
At the age of 45, Venus Williams impressed in her much-noticed US Open comeback despite a defeat. Serena Williams’ older sister surprisingly well held up against Karolina Muchova (29) and even annoyed the Czech set to eleven in 3: 6, 6: 2, 1: 6.
The American Williams shook her hand with a smile. Winking she left the 23,000 spectator Arthur-Ashe-Stadium-the audience said goodbye with a standing ovation. “She is such a legend of our sport. It is so nice to stand on the pitch with her”, said the former French Open finalist Muchova.

At the press conference after the paretie, Williams was thoughtful. When asked what they wanted to prove themselves, the tears came to her. “For me it was about returning to the pitch to give myself the chance to play with the best of health. If you don’t play healthy, it hangs in your head. It’s not just about how to feel. It was nice to be freer.”
Most recently, Williams had written about the situation before her uterine operation last summer in an emotional post. “I was told that I was inoperable. I was told that I could bleed away on the operating table. I was told that I should look for a surrogate mother and give up hope for her own children,” she wrote on Instagram.
A year was her operation, in which a fibroid was removed, among other things. “I suffered from severe anemia, paralyzing pain, severe bleeding and unusually frequent menstrual cycles for many years. That impaired my tennis.”
What’s next?
How things will go after the impressive comeback is open. She does not yet know whether she would play tournaments outside the United States and was ready to travel far, said Williams. With a total of seven with Grand Slam titles in singles, 14 in doubles and 2 in mixed, it is one of the best tennis professionals in history. In addition, she is four times Olympic champion.
Venus Williams triumphed at the US Open in 2000 and 2001. Thanks to a wildcard, the old master took part in the US Open spectacle for the first time in two years and for the 25th time-28 years after her debut. According to the World Tennis Association, she has been the oldest individual participant since Renee Richards, who had started at the US Open at the age of 47.
