The World Darts Championship is over for Vincent van der Voort. The 47-year-old darts player from Purmerend had to beat Luke Humphries in the last 32: 4-3. The Dutch Destroyer seemed to be on a comeback, but ended up falling just short.
In Alexandra Palace in London, Van der Voort started the match moderately. Within fifteen minutes he was 2-0 behind in sets against the number five in the world. He then straightened his back and came back to 2-2.
The fifth set went to Humphries and the Englishman also took a lead in the sixth set. Again Van der Voort came alongside: 3-3. In the decisive last set, Van der Voort started badly and that cost him the head. Humphries took advantage of that and took the game: 4-3.
Niels Zonneveld and Jimmy Hendriks were previously eliminated at the World Darts Championship. Michael van Gerwen and Dirk van Duijvenbode are the only remaining Dutchmen. The final of the tournament is on January 3.
