There is a military invasion in De Wijk on Friday afternoon. No fewer than 24 combat helicopters land in the municipality of De Wolden for the international military exercise Falcon Autumn.

Practice takes place on Friday and Saturday at the Ossesluis near De Wijk, Veeningen, Echten and Koekange.

24 combat helicopters from the Dutch, Polish and American army will be deployed for the exercise. These dropped about 250 soldiers in the exercise area. This mainly concerns soldiers from Airmobile Assen and a Polish company. The military uses practice ammunition. Loose cartridges are used that cannot hit a target.

The exercise takes about 24 hours. The area in which the military operation takes place has been cordoned off during that time.

Falcon Autumn is a major international exercise. In the Netherlands, they also practice around Drachten, on the Veluwe and near Katwijk.
