NMBS uses dozens of taxis to take travelers in wheelchairs to and from Mechelen: “I feel like a king”
The train is always a bit of a journey, but for people with reduced mobility it is more often an agony. Getting on and off the train independently is not possible, and most platforms in Flanders are not accessible without assistance. Due to two malfunctioning lifts in the station in Mechelen, the platforms are no longer accessible at all, so NMBS has already deployed dozens of taxis to take travelers to and from the station. “I feel like a king”, one of them testifies to ‘VRT NWS’.
