Pantone arrives with the color of the year 2022 “Very Peri” into the metaverse. In collaboration with digital artist Polygon1993, the shade of lilac will be immortalized in nine unique NFTs, the Color Institute announced Thursday.
Polygon1993 is a multidisciplinary artist working with visual effects. The artist has a special connection to the colour: “When I saw Very Peri for the first time, it immediately took me back to my childhood. The blue and red undertones gave the color a retro vibe that inspired me to incorporate nostalgic effects that take people back in time,” explained Polygon1993. For the Pantone collaboration, the artist created Glitch Art ) created by combining analog camera images with digital features to create images with moving elements.Polygon1993 sees his work as a way of creating something new and futuristic derived from something old.
To sell the NFTs, Pantone is using Tezos – an environmentally friendly blockchain that Pantone wants to use to digitally expand its color analysis and creations in the future. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with Polygon1993 and Tezos to explore new avenues for creativity like NFTs and how color can influence that creation,” said Elley Cheng, vice president and general manager of Pantone.
The first two NFTs will be available on the Objkt NFT marketplace until Friday. The next three Very Peri NFTs will follow between March 11th and 14th. The third launch will take place in Tezo’s “BlockSpace,” a virtual Very Peri space where those interested can “get in touch with the color.” In addition to the launch, there will be a discussion on color and the metaverse by Pantone Vice President Laurie Pressman and Cheng.
