Colman Domingo takes on the role of Joe Jackson

After it was announced in mid-January that the young actor Juliano Krue Valdi would portray the young Michael Jackson, the cast of the family patriarch Joe Jackson has now been confirmed. This role will be taken on by Colman Domingo, who is currently on the Oscar nomination list for his performance in Rustin.

The happiness of “portraying a rich, complex and flawed character”

“Michael” is expected to be released in theaters on April 18, 2025 and will depict the life of Michael Jackson and the success story of the Jackson 5. In addition to Valdi and Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of the “King of Pop”, Domingo has also been confirmed for the cast by Lionsgate. In his role as Joe Jackson, he will embody the father of the “Thriller” singer and his nine siblings, and thus also the architect of the band construct Jackson 5.

Colman Domingo himself gives one Explanation “Not only am I lucky enough to portray a rich, complex and flawed character in Joe Jackson, but I also have a front-row seat to Jaafar’s incredible transformation. After I saw him rehearse, I was blown away. There is something divine about the way Jaafar embodies his late uncle. His talent and his embodiment of Michael’s essence is just on another level.”

On his Instagramaccount, the 54-year-old shares a “Deadline” post that announces him as a member of the “Michael” cast and writes: “Next point. I’m excited. Jaafar is a revelation.”

The biopic’s director, Antoine Fuqua, also seems happy with the cast: “Colman has incredible range – he works hard to embody his characters and understand their true nature and motivations. “I’m grateful to be able to work with an actor who can so passionately portray the many sides of Joe Jackson: husband, father and manager.”
