Ineos Grenadiers initially did not provide any further information on the accident in Gachancipa, around 30 km from the capital Bogota. However, according to local transport authorities, the 2019 Tour winner crashed into a bus when the vehicle stopped at a bus stop.
Bernal is planning a tour comeback this year
Bernal, who won the 2019 Tour of France, was set to captain the British side to the Tour that year. In 2020 he was part of the Tour of France for the last time. However, he had to give up early due to a back injury.
Last year, Bernal decided not to compete in the Grand Boucle and instead competed in the Giro d’Italia. Bernal entered the list of winners of the Tour of Italy for the first time.
