Collin Veijer graced his debut at the TT with a place in the top ten. The 18-year-old rider from Staphorst was flagged seventh in Moto3.
The racing talent managed to ride in the leading group throughout the race and therefore kept the prospect of an excellent classification. Veijer started the last lap in ninth place, but due to mistakes at the front of the field he was able to move up two more pictures.
Veijer raged at his peak of the race, a few laps before the end, even brutally in fifth place. After that he was pushed back a bit, so he fought at the back of the leading group for a good result.
The speed devil from Overijssel said on Saturday after his qualification – he started ninth – that he was modestly satisfied with a place in the top-15.
The seventh place at the TT is not his best performance of the season. He finished sixth in Mugello, Italy, two weeks ago.
Jaume Masia became the winner of the Moto3 TT race. He is now second in the World Cup.
World Cup leader comes last
World Championship leader Daniel Holgado has had a dramatic performance on the TT Circuit. In Moto3 qualifying, the Spaniard drove so poorly that he started 27th and last on the grid.
There was no question of a catch-up race on Sunday either. Holgado crashed in the first round. He was able to resume his race, so he had to complete his laps on the TT Circuit alone.
He was eventually flagged 25th. That does not result in World Cup points. However, he remains the leader in the world championship.
