S.ono 53, in 11 regions, e they currently host over 4000 smart studentswho have not only passed a selection, but to keep their position they must be up to date with their studies and maintain a good average in the exams: they are the University Colleges of Merit (CCUM), which with the new admission calls they are preparing to open the doors to other 1000 children and girls for the academic year 2022/23. To find out more, just go to the website of the Colleges, then on search for your college, choosing the city (in some, for example Milan and Pavia, there are several), from there enter the specific site and look for the information. Watch out for the deadline for new admissions calls: in most cases, registrations close at the end of August, but at College of Milanfor example, they close on July 25th.
But what are the Colleges of Merit? They are non-profit organizations where students have room and board and can follow an extra training course, to complete their university studies, generally with an orientation to the world of work. To enter you must pass a selection – this year it will be held mainly at a distance – with two or more oral tests on the disciplines related to the chosen faculty. You enter therefore only for merit, not for income or anything else.
Almost all of Al Ghislieri graduate with the maximum
To give an example: in Pavia, allo historic college Ghislieri founded in 1567 by Pope Pius V, today one third of the students have room and board completely free of charge. And we are talking about excellent students, given that in the last 10 years 92 percent have graduated with 110 cum laude. To enter Ghislieri you must have obtained a mark of at least 80/100 in the final examinationthen pass two oral tests of your choice, depending on the field of study. Those who are already university students must have an average of 27 and the same average is necessary to stay at the college. For the next academic year, 14 places are available for boys and 14 for girls. In addition to room and board, those who enter can follow specific internal courses, including professional orientation, participate in international exchanges, compete for other scholarships, take advantage of a tutoring service.
In short, a thousand opportunities are opening up in university colleges of merit with the new calls for admissions. Above all, it is the unique opportunity to live in a community of peers, meet many other students, share the unrepeatable years of university, create a network that will be useful in the future.
Colleges of merit: a job-oriented training
Vincenzo Salvatore, president of the Conference of University Colleges of Merit underlines this: “The educational experience of the University Colleges of Merit is unique because it allows children to live and study together, to follow a training oriented to work and the international dimension and to be followed in the course of studies “. A possibility to exploit, and also an investment, which is increasingly appreciated: in 2021 applications for admission increased by 12 percent compared to the previous year.
But who are the “lucky” college students? 47 percent follow Stem area courses, compared to 24 per cent nationally, while 16 per cent are enrolled in the medical area (and for the children of doctors and dentists the Enpam Foundation provides additional scholarships). But the most important data is another: one year after graduation, 97.5 per cent of the students of the Colleges of merit have a job. It’s worth a try.
