College de Brink comes up with a playful response to MAVO-out stickers: “MAVO-power”

The ‘MAVO OUT’ stickers of the Willem de Zwijger College in Bussum caused a lot of commotion in recent days. Some students at the school prefer not to share the same building with VMBO students. Ridiculous, says College de Brink from Laren. They come up with a counter-action.

“VMBO’ers are the engines of society. If you need a plumber, if your lighting doesn’t work at home, if your car breaks down – then you need a VMBO’er,” says student counselor and initiator of the counter-action Noah Oldenburg of College de Brink.

Together with the management, he thought it was important that there was a dissenting voice after the sticker stunt by students of the Willem de Zwijger College. Oldenburg: “We notice very much that there is a tendency that you have to go to HAVO or higher. That is why we thought this was a great opportunity to make our own sound heard again. The power of VMBO!”

The Willem de Zwijger College has merged with VitusMavo since last year, so that now there are no longer only pre-university and havo students walking around in the building. There was a lot of fuss about that merger. Some parents were against it, partly because ‘they were afraid that the quality of education would deteriorate’. Willem de Zwijger eventually entered into a partnership with VitusMavo.

In recent weeks, the ‘MAVO OUT’ stickers were pasted by various graduating students as a result of this. According to the students, this was mainly intended as a joke. The management immediately had them removed.
