Ukrainian pets, which come along with the refugee flow, are also not forgotten in North Holland. In addition to all the fundraising campaigns for people, food and other foodstuffs are also collected for animals to be sent to the Polish border.
The fundraiser was started by animal lover Iwona Andruszkiewicz. She collects things throughout the region. “I have three animals at home myself and I can imagine what a feeling it must be to not be able to take care of your animal or even have to leave it behind. That hurts.”
Many things are already stored at Dierenkliniek Aalsmeer. “The animals will come along, but no special action has been taken for that. So we have picked up on that a bit,” says veterinary assistant Janet Groeneweg. “They have already had to leave everything behind and how nice is it that you can at least take your animal with you. That is a piece of home.”
