Collection for dog Jackie, who was almost bitten to death at home yesterday by peers

Animal ambulance De Ronde Venen has started a fundraising campaign for the treatment of the Amstelveen dog Jackie. The Jack Russell suffered about fifty bite wounds in an attack by four housemates and peers yesterday. The police are investigating whether there is any animal abuse or neglect in the home. “The question is whether she will make it at all,” says Miriam Bosman of the animal ambulance.

The bitch is in critical condition in the animal hospital, where everything is done to save her. First the wounds are treated, but eventually the dog will have to be operated under anesthesia. Because the owners have given up on her, the costs of the treatment will be borne by the animal ambulance.

Beaten up

Because the animal ambulance itself does not have it wide, there is one fundraiser started. “This dog is so beat up and needs such intensive care. That will cost you: I think we will lose 3000 euros.”

Because the animal ambulance is now the owner, the dog does not have to go back to her old home. “She was attacked there. The residents had a lot of dogs and the owner found blood under the legs of four of them. The owners themselves also realized that it was better to give her up.

“It seems to have happened before”

The owners would have been looking for a new home for Jackie for some time. “It seems to have happened before, but not as serious as now,” she says. “You don’t want the dog to have to go back to the owners and the pack.”

The coming days will be tough, according to the animal ambulance. “She still has a lot to do. You don’t know now whether she is in shock from the pain or from the event itself. Later when she is healed, you will only be able to see how she is mentally.” Only then will a new owner be critically examined. “You want the dog to come in a golden basket.”

Animal welfare research

Meanwhile, the police are investigating the welfare of the dogs. “Among other things, the animal police investigates the living conditions of these animals and whether they are well cared for,” says the police spokesman. “If there is animal abuse or neglect, there will be enforcement.”

“The resident called us names and threatened us”

Just like the animal ambulance, the police also came to take a look. When they investigated whether criminal offenses had been committed, one of the residents grew impatient. “The resident abused us and threatened us,” one of the officers writes in a message on the Instagram channel of Amstelveen Police Base Team.

The police have arrested the woman for threats. “She has now been released, but she remains a suspect,” says the police spokesman. “The prosecutor will determine whether she is punishable.”
