Collection campaign De Rooy is going like a spear: ‘Don’t bring any more clothes’

The collection campaign of transport company De Rooy in Son is going very smoothly. So much stuff has already been collected that owner Gerard de Rooy has asked not to bring any more clothes. “We lost our overview here this afternoon, but it’s great that so many people help.”

On Monday, the company started a fundraiser for Ukrainian families of drivers from their location in Poland. And now there are already six hundred large boxes full of clothing in the hall of the company. “The first trailer is full and we will get another three trailers full,” says De Rooy.

He himself made the call on Facebook on Tuesday afternoon not to bring any more clothes. Because they now have more than enough. “It has gotten a bit out of hand, you can say,” he says with a laugh. They get a lot of cooperation from other companies. “DAF, VDL and Mercedes have all sent goods. Another company supplies cardboard boxes, everyone contributes.”

Clothes no longer have to go to Son. But they could still use other things, De Rooy emphasizes. Such as thermal clothing, batteries, medicines, diapers and first aid equipment. De Rooy provides daily status updates on how the promotion is progressing via the Facebook page.

From Thursday, the first truck will drive with stuff on board. A Ukrainian company is also taking a load this week. Some will go to the families of the company’s drivers, the rest will be taken over by an aid organization on the border between Poland and Ukraine.

The transport company now also provides shelter for the families of Ukrainian drivers. They try to arrange accommodation for them in holiday parks in Poland.

“This morning there were six families on the doorstep, which we subsequently housed elsewhere. We also pick up people at the border with buses and then take them to reception centers. We are also looking at whether there is room in holiday parks in Poland, which is starting now. to take shape.”
