Collectibles – alternative investments from your own cellar

In many cases, alternative investments can even be found in your own basement. Old toys and magazines are now often considered collector’s items and sometimes fetch horrendous sums when resold. With a bit of luck, you can achieve a high return with little capital.

Collectibles

When the term investment comes up, most people first think of financial products, real estate, cars, watches and precious metals. Less popular, however, are investments in the form of collector’s items, which are often found in everyday life and whose value is all too often misjudged.

The market also determines the price of the small treasures in your own home, which means that the tighter the supply and the higher the demand, the greater the profit. With the right instinct and a little luck, you can achieve lucrative returns through collecting.

However, when it comes to collectibles, it is often difficult to predict in which direction the price will develop. Therefore, these investments are not exempt from risk.

However, in certain cases a high return can be achieved with the following collectibles.

Sneakers

Sneakers have been popular collector’s items for many years, with enthusiasts paying horrendous sums for a pair of sneakers in limited editions from major manufacturers. Anyone who purchases the models early at the regular trading price can then achieve triple-digit returns.

One of the most expensive models of all time was auctioned for $560,000, the vintage version of the Nike Air Jordan 1S. The pair was worn by basketball legend Michael Jordan.

Lego

Lego buildings that were only available in stores for a limited time can bring in significant amounts of money after just a few years. In 2007, the Lego toy Ultimate Collectors Millenium Falcon still cost 500 US dollars, thirteen years later this exclusive edition is trading for around 8,000 US dollars.

In order to achieve such proud prices, however, all parts and the original packaging must still be intact.

More toys

But it’s not just Lego toys that can generate high returns as collector’s items; other toys such as Playmobil figures, action figures and stuffed animals are also very popular with collectors to this day.

It can be worth dusting off old treasures from childhood and determining the current value of rare and well-preserved objects.

comics

Comics have been very popular for many decades. Collectors in particular maintain first editions of certain comic series with the greatest care, and not without reason. In 2010, a Batman comic (copy number 27) from 1939 was auctioned for one million US dollars; the original purchase price at the time was 10 cents.

Here too, the condition, edition and age are crucial. The older and better preserved, the higher the current price. If it is an edition with a low number, there is a good chance that there will be lovers willing to pay.
