Collected 11.8 million for floods in Limburg is gone: everything goes to victims | Inland

The 11.8 million euros collected via Giro 777 after the floods in Limburg a year ago has now been fully allocated or reserved for affected individuals and organizations. This is reported by the National Disaster Fund, which opened Giro 777 after the floods.

More than thirty applications for recovery projects from civil society organizations have largely been processed, according to the disaster fund (NRF). This includes a project of the Wigwam Foundation in Valkenburg for the refurbishment of a destroyed location where care holidays and activities are offered to families with children or young people with disabilities.

Money was also made available for the Meerssen Swimming Pool, which was polluted by the flooding and where pumps had to be replaced and the catering building had to be repaired.

Affected households

The households hardest hit by the floods have also received 2000 euros from the NRF. In total, this involved 5.2 million euros. At the beginning of September, the first group of those seriously affected received the money in the bank account.

Households that suffered significant damage due to the flooding could already apply for a gift of 1000 euros in August last year. At the end of last year, a total of 2,518 people with serious water damage were paid this amount. In November 2021, the NRF announced that the people most severely affected were given another 1000 euros. That amount has now also been transferred.

All donations to victims

The NRF says that all the donated money goes to the victims. “The very limited costs for some hired support staff have been borne by the equity capital of the National Disaster Fund and not at the expense of the funds donated for this disaster,” the fund said.

In July last year, Limburg was hit by severe flooding as a result of heavy rainfall. Rivers overflowed, flooding streets, houses and other buildings. The havoc and damage caused by the disaster were particularly severe in a number of cases.
