English football stars Wayne Rooney’s and Jamie Vardy the spouses have fought all the way to court in the so-called “Wagatha Christie” investigation, where Rebakah Vardy accused Coleen Rooney for defamation.

In an exposé dubbed “Wagatha Christie”, Rooney publicly accused Vardy of leaking his Instagram stories to the media. Vardy took this as a personal insult, as he received quite negative feedback after the revelation story.

Rooney had set a trap where three Instagram stories had been directed only for Vardy to see. All three stories were later reported in The Sun newspaper. In addition, two of the stories were fabricated events.

In a recent court decision, the judge stated in the light of the evidence that Vardy was together with his close friend and agent Caroline Watt with leaked Instagram content to the British media The Sun. Accordingly, Rooney was not found guilty of defamation.

Vardy will have to pay about three million pounds, or about 3.5 million euros, for his loss. The scandal between the parties started already in 2019. The protracted legal proceedings have increased the bill to quite a lot of costs.

There were crucial gaps in Vardy and Watt’s evidence that proved the pair’s guilt. Watt also did not appear before the court to prove his innocence. The court ruled, among other things, that critical points had been intentionally removed from the Whatsapp conversation between Vardy and Watt.
