Coldplay have honored Tina Turner, who died on May 24th, with a live performance of her song “Proud Mary” – Ike and Turner’s famous cover of the 1971 Creedence Clearwater Revival hit. The band, currently on their “Music Of The Spheres’ world tour was performing at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Barcelona on May 24th when the world began to mourn Turner – they promptly dedicated the entire evening to her.

Singer Lizzo also spontaneously sang this song in honor of the 83-year-old. Melissa Viviane Jefferson, Lizzo’s real name, is currently on her “Special” tour. On the anniversary of the death of the “Queen of Rock’n’Roll” she performed in Phoenix, Arizona.
She spoke to the audience: “Today we lost an icon. And I didn’t allow myself to be sad. I didn’t allow myself to cry about it. And I don’t want to do that either, because I would much rather celebrate the incredible legend Tina Turner. As a black girl in a rock band, I wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”

Below, the 41-year-old writes: “My beloved queen. I love you endlessly. I am so thankful for your inspiration and all the paths you paved for me. You are strength and resilience. You are the epitome of power and passion.” She continues, “We are all so fortunate to have experienced your kindness and wonderful spirit that will live on forever. Thank you for everything you have done.”
Following their tribute, which was posted on May 24, fans took to social media to share a 2008 duet between the two, in which the then 26-year-old Beyoncé and Turner sing the hit song “Proud Mary” together.

In one of her last interviews, given just weeks before her death, Turner also revealed how she would like to be remembered. In a conversation with “The Guardians” Turner explains that she wants to be remembered “as the queen of rock ‘n’ roll” and as an “inspirational figure for women”. “As a woman who showed other women that it’s okay to strive for success on your own.”
