Rocket Man, released in 1972, is one of Elton John’s most famous songs. Now Coldplay covered the British song during a live set.
On Saturday (July 8th) Elton John gave the very last concert of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road farewell tour. With the words “This is it!” (In German: “That’s it!”), the 76-year-old said goodbye to his audience in the Tele2 Arena in the Swedish capital of Stockholm. Around the same time, Coldplay also performed in Sweden – namely in Gothenburg, a good 500 kilometers away. And so Coldplay singer Chris Martin insisted on sending his compatriot musical greetings via video link.
Both shows had large video screens showing the other artist. Chris Martin addressed celebratory words to Elton John in the live broadcast – also on behalf of other musicians he inspired: “Of all the bands and artists you have helped and inspired: We all love you so much.”

A new study shows how much a word sung by the top artists of 2022/23 is worth: The results, which the American company “American Casino Guide” found out, show that singer Adele is at the top and earns almost 26,567 euros per word on average. Each word of her hit “Someone Like You” is valued at around 167,023 euros. Coldplay and Billie Eilish are in second and third place.
The US company AmericanCasinoGuide.com conducted the study to determine which of the top 50 earning musicians make the most money per word. The analysis was performed for the top 10 most popular songs on Spotify for each artist, since the number of streams is only published for these songs.

Coldplay earn an average of around €20,490 per word. “The Scientist” brings in 29,987 euros per word.
Billie Eilish earns an average of €16,311 per word. The song “Lovely,” which she collaborated on with singer Khalid, has been streamed over 2.2 million times on Spotify, earning her $50,000 per word.
In fourth place is American singer and rapper Post Malone, who earns an average of €15,052 per word. In 2018, Post Malone collaborated with Swae Lee and released the song “Sunflower” — the song that earns the artist the most money, according to the study, at $40,000 per word.
Canadian singer Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, also known as The Weeknd, is in fifth place, earning an average of €14,813 per word. When it comes to the singer’s most profitable song from the top 10 on Spotify, it’s “Blinding Lights”: One word from the song brought the artist around 49,592 euros.

In sixth place is Harry Styles. The singer earns an average of 14,664 euros per word. Each word in “Watermelon Sugar” brings him about 34,299 euros.

- 8. Ed Sheeran: $13,958 per word on average. “Perfect” brings 30.513 euros per word.
- 9. Sam Smith: an average of 13,913 per word. “Stay With Me” brings in 38,888 euros per word.
- 10. Justin Bieber: an average of 13,462 per word. “Bad Guy (Cover)” brings in 28.748 euros per word.
Coldplay have announced their new album Moon Music. The band is in the process of completing the recording for it. The record will be the second part of the Music of the Spheres record, which will be released in 2021, the band announced.
There is no release date for “Moon Music” yet. Singer Chris Martin said in an interview that it will take a while before “Moon Music” will be released. However, he hinted that the band could possibly play first songs on their world tour. This also takes them to Europe and Great Britain. Dates for Germany have not yet been announced. Coldplay released their first debut album Parachutes in 2000. Moon Music is their tenth studio album. Last year the group announced they would only be releasing records until 2025. However, she does not want to “waste time and record new material in this time window”. In July, the formation needed their latest single “Biutyful” out.
