Coldplay: Chris Martin takes shift at charity cafe

To collect donations for the homeless and needy, Martin distributed hot drinks and baked goods.

It’s Chris-Mas. Instead of withdrawing in the run-up to Christmas and taking a break from the current tour, multimillionaire Chris Martin from Coldplay got involved in a good cause. He helped out behind the counter at a London homeless charity café, raising funds to provide hot meals to people in financial need.

Coffee and cake served by Chris Martin

Martin has worked in the charity café several times, as there is a lot to do here, especially before Christmas. The store that belongs to the organization “Crisis UK” Heard, is run by his friend Matt Downie, who had used the Coldplay singer in the camp in previous years. This time, however, there were already enough volunteers there so he asked Chris Martin to stand at the counter and hand out coffee and cake.

Downie posted on X two pictures together with some volunteers and also with their prominent helper. He wrote: “A very special guest worked in the Finsbury Park @crisis_uk shop today…Chris Martin is a valued, long-standing supporter and volunteer. One of the nicest people you could meet.”

“We are very thankful”

In the coming weeks, the crew plans to open more stores so they can help people out of homelessness. Opposite “The Sun” Downie explained how great his friend’s help is: “We are very grateful to Chris for giving his valuable time today as a volunteer at our Shop from Crisis Finsbury Park, where he helped our customers make their Christmas shopping extra special design. All of our volunteers, whether new or long-time like Chris, play a crucial role in our mission to end homelessness.” He also explains what he wants to achieve in the near future: “Next week we are mobilizing a unique volunteer effort when we “Our Christmas services are launching to support more than 7,000 people at risk of homelessness across the UK – at one of the most difficult times of the year.”
