Frost on Monday morning: In Germany there were widespread sub-zero temperatures. What a jittery start to Easter week. And it stays cold!
In the coming days there will be night frosts every day. In addition, a fresh east wind blows during the day, which makes us shiver, because we feel the measured temperatures are quite a bit colder than they actually are.
Graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung from wetter.net to BILD: “It will continue like this until Easter. At Easter itself we hardly make the 10 degree mark, that could most likely be the case in the southwest, otherwise we are usually below 10 degrees. No noticeable warming is in sight until mid-April. This could be the coolest spring in years.”
Caught in the cold snap
In addition, there are a lot of clouds at Easter, the sun is rare, some rain or even snow in the higher altitudes is also part of it. If you look up to mid-April, you have to realize that even then it doesn’t really seem to be getting any warmer.
“The heat stays away from us. Anyone hoping for 20 degrees will be disappointed. That is unlikely until mid-April. We’re caught in the cold snap. It may even remain quite fresh until the beginning of May. It could definitely be one of the coolest springs since weather records began,” explains qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung.
Many miss the warm and dry springs of the past few years. Everything is different this year, a little more normality again. But at the moment it is indeed too cold for the current season.
Weather expert Jung: “There is no escape from this cold snap. A significant warming is not in sight until mid-April, maybe after that?”
This is how it will continue in the coming days
Tuesday: 6 to 10 degrees, mix of sun and clouds, dry
Wednesday: 3 to 9 degrees, sometimes sun, sometimes clouds, dry
Maundy Thursday: 6 to 11 degrees, mixed, some rain in the west
Good Friday: 5 to 12 degrees, regionally many clouds, little sunshine, some rain possible
Holy Saturday: 6 to 12 degrees, mixed and cool, a mix of sun and clouds
Easter Sunday: 7 to 12 degrees, lots of clouds, little sunshine, occasional rain or snow at higher altitudes
Easter Monday: 8 to 14 degrees, warmest in the west and southwest, lots of clouds, little sun, mostly dry
Spring is very sluggish this year, while late winter is really tough.
Weather expert Jung: “We are no longer used to this after the past few years. Spring was always very warm, very dry and very sunny. The first spring month of March was completely different this year.”
