Keep your umbrella at hand, because we’re going to have a wet December in Zoetermeer. Will that precipitation also ensure a white Christmas? Jaco van Wezel, meteorologist at WeerOnline.nl gives us the weather forecast for December.

Jaco: “December starts cold this year with frost at night and it is also cold during the day with temperatures below 5 degrees. But after Sinterklaas the cold will probably gradually disappear and milder and wetter weather is expected.”
Dry and smooth
Before the saint takes the boat to Spain, it is mainly dry in Zoetermeer and there are sunny periods. Because it freezes at night and there can be a shower, there is a chance of slippery conditions in the morning. So keep that in mind when you go outside.
Milder temperatures
During the period when the gingerbread nuts are replaced by Christmas wreaths, temperatures become milder in Zoetermeer. Jaco: “This is because there is a good chance that mild air will be brought in from the Atlantic Ocean. This raises the temperature to just above 7 degrees during the day and 1 to 2 degrees at night. If the wind turns to the southwest, it can even reach 10 degrees.”
More rain

Not only does the temperature increase in December, but also the amount of precipitation. “Normally December is already wet, but this year we can expect more rain than average from the middle of the month,” says Jaco.
White Christmas?
Can we take a walk in Zoetermeer in the crunching snow during Christmas? Jaco: “At the end of December, the chance of mild and wet weather only increases further. On average, the chance of a white Christmas is 7 percent, but with the current prospects that chance is even lower.”
