Mike van Puffelen is ready. The preparations for the Col du VAM Run are in full swing. According to the co-organizer, this first edition of the running race, which will take place on Sunday 29 May, promises to be a great sporting event.

Van Puffelen, himself an avid sportsman in heart and soul, had to stop preparations for the past two years because of the corona virus. The running event on the Col du VAM, or the VAM mountain, is not just any running race. “It’s more like a sponsored run”, Van Puffelen says. ,,The idea of the Col du VAM run is that the participants are challenged to run as many laps of 2.5 kilometers as possible in 60 minutes. At the same time they run for charity, when you register you can choose the amount that goes to KiKa, the Children’s Cancer Free Foundation’ goes.”

Something other than cycling

Experienced runners will not be startled at the hearing of 2.5 kilometers. But with two 42 meter climbs, it becomes a different story. From Puffelen : With a height of about 48 meters above sea level, this artificial mountain is the highest point in Drenthe. It’s really different from cycling.”
The first registrations have already been received and, according to Van Puffelen, many more can be added. “There is still plenty of room! So I urge anyone who enjoys running to sign up. Know that you are doing this for a good cause!”

Annual event

The co-initiator from Hoogeveen himself expects that the seasoned runners should be able to complete the 2.5 kilometer lap four or five times.
He plans to make it an annual event, each year with a different charity.
