Coevorden’s last record store closes: Rieks Vogelzang quits

And that Coevorden will miss the record store became clear during the conversation with Vogelzang. A group of about fifteen regular customers entered the store with a parting gift. “We wanted to thank you with a group of guys for more than 30 years of music in the city here,” says one of the customers.

As a gift, the group presented geraniums (Vogelzang had indicated in an earlier interview that he was not going to sit behind the geraniums) and a gold record, because: “You are the gold record for us.” Vogelzang receives the gifts with pride. “Look, this is my first gold record.”

The group then also gives a painting with a print from the record store. “Great, my own building. Great,” Vogelzang responds. A few seconds later, the visitors conjure up several pots of geraniums again, transforming the counter into a flower garden. “Now I can literally and figuratively go behind the geraniums,” jokes Vogelzang.

Vogelzang will certainly not sit still during his retirement and music remains a common thread in his daily life. “I have a webshop with vinyl (Blackvinyl, ed.), I’m going to continue with that, I like doing that. I also make music myself, so I always keep busy with music.”
