The municipality of Coevorden, together with housing corporation Domesta, will build thirty flexible homes on the corner of Drostenstraat and the mayor Feithsingel in the city.
The municipality and Domesta want to create more space for residents who have difficulty finding a home. These are homes with one or more bedrooms that are built in two or three storeys.
“In a time of tightness in the housing market, we realize that thirty houses are not enough,” says Bert Moorman, director of Domesta. “But in this way we together alleviate the acute housing shortage and create new opportunities.”
Flex homes are homes that can be placed at a different location in the future. It is a modern and fast way of building. In the case of Coevorden, these are homes with one or more bedrooms that are built in two or three storeys. According to the municipality and Domesta, flexible living offers a good solution for residents who have difficulty finding housing due to circumstances, such as starters or people who have recently been divorced and need a home quickly.
There used to be a school at the location that the municipality of Coevorden has in mind. The 5300 square meter site is already in the hands of the municipality. According to alderman Steven Stegen, anyone who thinks of container homes when they think of flexible living should not be afraid. “It’s quality, it doesn’t look like containers. In this plan, the homes are reused in the longer term and we look at sustainable solutions, such as communal facilities for the residents.” According to Stegen, the municipality of Coevorden in Drenthe is leading the way with this plan.
How the houses will look is up to Domesta, who will rent out the houses. Soil investigation and other investigations must be completed this fall. Delivery is scheduled for 2024.
The municipality and Domesta will hold a walk-in meeting on July 18 in Plaza Sportz. In the autumn, the parties will talk to the residents again. Interested parties must be registered with Thuiskompas as a house seeker in Coevorden.
