Code yellow issued for the province: local flooding and strong gusts of wind

North Holland cannot escape it today: a lot of rain falls on the province. The KNMI has now issued code yellow for the entire province, except Texel. According to weatherman Jan Visser, we can count on local flooding and wind gusts of up to 65 kilometers per hour.

According to the weatherman, the emphasis is on the rain: we can expect a lot from that. “That’s because there is little speed in the air. There is virtually no current in the atmosphere.

That is why the showers do not move and a lot of precipitation can fall in a short time.” In the capital alone, more than 10 millimeters of rain fell around 4 p.m., according to Visser.

Exceptionally wet

Heavy rain showers in May are nothing new, but that a spring is as wet as this year, that is exceptional. “March was wet, April was wet,” says Visser. “And although the month of May has just started, it will all in all be a wet month. This is the wettest spring since 1998.”

The outlook is much drier, especially at the end of the coming weeks. “It will be wet up to and including Tuesday, then it will gradually decrease. The weather will be clearly better on Friday and Saturday in particular.”
