We will experience very strong gusts of wind on Thursday, says weatherman Rico Schröder from Weerplaza. Weather code yellow applies from ten o’clock in Brabant and the ANWB advises you to work from home. But despite all that, it looks like the dreaded autumn storm Ciarán will hit our province.
“There will not be a storm in Brabant,” says Schröder in the radio program WAKKER! on Omroep Brabant. “We are going to get mainly very heavy gusts of wind in Brabant. That is why code yellow applies here until eight o’clock tonight. This is mainly intended as a warning.”
According to the weatherman, we should take into account wind gusts of about eighty kilometers per hour. Directly at the sea it will reach wind force nine on Thursday. In our province the strongest wind will therefore blow through the west. “The wind is also blowing a bit further to the east, we have wind force six there today. But the wind gusts are slightly less heavy at sixty to seventy kilometers per hour,” says Schröder.
“It will remain quite turbulent in the near future.”
The rain will also mainly fall in the west of Brabant. “It will rain this morning. It will gradually move away to the north. After that, it will be dry, especially in the east of the province. Some rain may fall from time to time in the west. And in the evening the rain will return to the east. Then there will be light rain and drizzle.” It will be about fourteen degrees on Thursday.
The drizzle will continue to fall next night. The temperature then drops to about eight degrees. And the wind? “The wind will continue to blow strongly, with a moderate wind force four to five and gusts of up to about sixty kilometers per hour. So it will in any case remain quite stormy in the near future.”
The ANWB advises people to work from home on Thursday due to storm Ciarán. Not because it is so dangerous on the road, but because there are more traffic jams than usual in this weather. “There will certainly be traffic jams,” the spokesperson said earlier. “Due to rain, motorists keep more distance and the expected wind can make it extra stormy.”
