After evaluation and consultation with the local authorities, it was decided to let the Royal Decree take effect this evening at midnight. Federal Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden (CD&V) had previously announced that she wanted code orange to come into effect earlier. Yesterday, her cabinet announced that the Royal Decree would be published on Thursday, but that the measures would not take effect until Friday during the day. This meant that it was no longer possible to party after 12 noon on Thursday evening, because the catering industry would then have to close.
