Most precipitation in Wervik and Geluwe
A lot of water has fallen, especially in Wervik and in Geluwe. 50 liters in both municipalities. In the Geluwsesteenweg in Wervik, the water just does not enter the houses. Just across the language border, in Komen, residents are less fortunate. There is also 20 liters more (lsee below the photo)
In Geluwe, 50 mm was collected in 6 hours.

Reports of flooding
In the Westhoek around 6 pm there are about 40 reports of flooding. “Flooded cellars, streets that are flooded and mud from the fields that flows onto the roads,” says spokesman Kristof Louagie. “But also into the Esdoornstraat Wervik is under water, up to a meter high.”
The amount of precipitation that fell is also considerable. In the region Messines around 4.30 pm there is a report of about 30 liters per square meter. In Tielt & Lapscheure for example, about 20 liters per square meter.
In Goodbye a cycling race was halted this afternoon due to the thunderstorm. The fire brigade (Post Geluwe) warns the residents (with the photo below): “If you need our service due to flooding, keep in mind that several calls will come in for Wervik-Geluwe territory. Several teams from both Westhoek Fire Brigade “Post Geluwe” . and Fire Department Westhoek – post Wervik are on track.”
