Code orange again for coastal provinces due to strong wind on Sunday evening

While the Netherlands is still recovering from storm Eunice, the KNMI has again code orange issued for the coastal provinces† The warning applies to the western coastal provinces and around the IJsselmeer region between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.

The weather institute expects wind gusts of 100 to 120 kilometers per hour in Zeeland, South Holland and North Holland and the IJsselmeer region. Rail carrier NS has announced that fewer trains will run between Alkmaar and Zaandam on Sunday evening: there will be one intercity per hour from 8 p.m. instead of the usual two. On other routes, the trains will run as planned for the time being.

Nuisance

Strong winds are also expected in the rest of the country, with domestic gusts of 75 to 90 kilometers per hour. During showers, “locally very strong gusts” of up to 100 kilometers per hour can occur. The weather institute warns of local damage as a result of the stormy weather and also of nuisance “for traffic and outdoor activities”.

Also at night and on Monday, according to the KNMI, the whole of the Netherlands will still have to deal with a lot of strong winds, with extra heavy gusts of wind (up to 100 kilometers per hour) on the coast. In the course of the afternoon and evening the wind will decrease throughout the country.

Storm Eunice caused extensive damage on Friday. At least four people were killed. In addition, insurers received thousands of damage reports until Friday evening alone, while the storm was not yet over. The NS canceled all trains from Friday afternoon and also experienced disruption on the track on Saturday. Several airlines together canceled more than 165 flights on Friday as a result of the storm.
