The F34 bicycle highway, which will connect Knokke-Heist with Nieuwpoort and run along the N34, is taking further shape between Zeebrugge and Ostend. While car traffic on the N34 will be bundled on the current southern carriageway towards Zeebrugge, a wide and comfortable bicycle highway will be created, shielded from motorized traffic.
The bicycle highway is not yet visible and there is a great variation in design and infrastructure. Compared to the motorway, the current cycling infrastructure also shows major quality defects. In many places the cycle paths are too narrow, they are too close to the motorway or on the emergency lane, they are made of concrete pavers and there are potholes. The various partners want to change this together.
