Coalition Vaals remains limited to three parties | 1Limburg

The new coalition in Vaals is limited to the parties Het Alternatief, CDA and Lokaal! The attempt by informateur Lambert Jaegers to add at least one party to the coalition has failed.

As a result, the new coalition with 8 of the 15 seats only has a minimal majority in the city council.

The core
A week and a half ago it was announced that Het Alternatief, CDA and Lokaal! would form the core of the new coalition. Informateur Lambert Jaegers (CDA) invited the PvdA, Viva Vaals and Nuj Lies Vroemen.

Not possible
In consultation with the PvdA, it was concluded that cooperation does not appear to be possible. The party has announced that it does not want to form a coalition with parties that had already agreed to cooperate, according to informateur Jaegers.

Many combinations possible
Viva Vaals and Nuj Lies Vroemen have let it be known that they have no need for consultation and a conversation. According to informateur Jaegers, many combinations were possible in Vaals after the elections with three parties with three seats and three with two seats.

Divisions and irritations
But the actual situation is different and complex. “Many parties together have a history of splits and irritations. As a result, personal relationships and previous experiences with coalitions form barriers to achieving lasting cooperation,” explains informateur Jaegers.

High threshold
That is why parties that want to form a coalition must step over high barriers and be prepared to compromise and crack the hard nuts, according to the former alderman, former councilor and former party leader. Jaegers believes that Vaals ‘deserves’ that issues from the past are resolved and that the future is looked at. “That is also badly needed,” says Jaegers.

The Alternative, CDA and Local! will in any case now work on the elaboration of a coalition agreement. This is expected to be completed in two weeks.
