Despite the seventh competitive defeat in a row, Urs Fischer is not worried about his coaching job at Bundesliga soccer club Union Berlin. “It’s not about me, it’s about us. We have to try to get out of the situation together,” said the Swiss after the 2:4 (2:1) defeat at Borussia Dortmund. However, Fischer admitted that he was not “completely relaxed” about the situation: “I would be lying about that.”
The 57-year-old sensationally led the Iron Men into the Champions League last season. But after two opening victories this season, despite some well-known new signings, the problem is still there. “At some point it becomes a mental story when you keep getting these blows in the neck,” said national player Robin Gosens.
Managing director Oliver Ruhnert is particularly concerned about the lack of stability in defense. “We get far too many goals. That’s not Union-like, that’s not our game normally,” said Ruhnert.
