Trainers tended to come from abroad
Thomas Tuchel, the new coach of FC Bayern, has clear ideas about his work with the German record champions. “It’s an honor and a distinction to be asked by FC Bayern,” said the 49-year-old successor to Julian Nagelsmann on Saturday at his presentation in Munich’s Allianz Arena. “The DNA of the club is very clearly defined. It’s about winning, it’s also about the way of winning. The squad is composed accordingly. It’s one of the most talented and the best squads in Europe. You can play for any title with this squad,” said Tuchel.
Bayern boss Oliver Kahn (quoted via “tz”) emphasized that Tuchel had worked with many top stars like Neymar or Kylian Mbappé, for example during his time at Paris Saint-Germain, which was certainly not easy. “Anyone who follows his career is impressed. He worked at Paris St. Germain, Leading a troop like that – there are much easier tasks. Chelsea was very successful from the start and became Champions League winners. That’s an impressive CV. We are very happy and glad that Thomas Tuchel is now our coach.”

“Now we need a top man like that. He has gained a lot of experience abroad,” said sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. The negotiations between the Bayern management and Tuchel began last Tuesday. He will play his debut game as FCB coach next Saturday in the top game of the Bundesliga against his former club and leaders Borussia Dortmund. “It’s a huge game that’s coming up, now even bigger for us in this constellation. It’s the game in German football, it has taken on a new explosiveness due to our deficit and BVB’s run,” said Tuchel. “It’s a crucial phase of the season.”

It is important to do everything in the coming weeks to win “all three titles” in the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Cup. But the first goal for him is to find a connection to the players. He is aware that not all players are “happy” with a change of coach. “The fastest way to gain confidence is on the training ground,” he emphasized. Tuchel also commented on the replacement of fellow coach Nagelsmann. “A coaching position only becomes vacant when it has been vacated,” he said, referring to the logic of the football business. “I can understand that it feels very modest for Julian.” The Champions League winner with Chelsea (2021) has signed a contract in Munich until June 30, 2025.
Tuchel assumed a job abroad – agreed to PSG in 2018 instead of FC Bayern
He rather expected that things would continue for him outside of Germany. The timing of Bayern’s request was surprising. “I didn’t expect it at all, there was no contact before. I was sure that I would continue my career abroad. I was confronted with this on Tuesday evening. Then I had to sleep on it. The enthusiasm then immediately prevailed. You can only do it in two days if you don’t use tactics,” revealed Tuchel.
The trainer almost ended up on Säbener Straße in 2018. “It used to be very tight, but Jupp Heynckes was still in charge. FC Bayern had every right to wait for Jupp’s decision. At the time, I made it very clear that I am not angry with anyone. But I couldn’t wait in the situation. ”Tuchel accepted at PSG and was in office there from July 2018 to December 2020.
